Protection from ultra violet rays

Are you protected from UV Rays?

After a long winter, the spring and summer always gets us out of our homes and into the great outdoors. Protection from ultra violet rays (UVA, UVB, UVC) has become a great source of concern for most as they venture into nature. At Bill’s, we are glad we can help protect you from harmful exposure to these rays. We carry a full selection of UV protection clothing and accessories, including hats and glasses.

To the concerned, much of the clothing we sell here has UPF ratings on the hang tags, in order to help you select the right merchandise. For example, Most Columbia merchandise is denoted as an “Omni-Shade” fabric. They have varying degrees of protection, blocking from 15% to 50% of the sun’s harmful rays. You will see hangtags indicating UPF 15, UPF 30, UPF 40, and UPF 50 on different items. Columbia accomplishes this by using tighter weave fabrics and incorporating advanced reflective and absorbing technology into the yarns. Columbia’s Omni-shade fabrics also protect against UVB rays, while most other sunblocks do not. Like a sunblock lotion, Columbia’s Omni-Shade is given a numerical value to indicate its level of sun protection. Unlike sun block, this level does not wear off. Look for sunblock protection from White Sierra, Mountain Hardware, The Northface, Outdoor Research, and others at our store this spring.

We also sell Tilley Hats for men and women. All Tilley hats have a UPF rating of UPF 50+. They have been tested and certified to provide Ultraviolet protection factor of 50+, the highest maximum rating given. You can be certain you are well protected from the sun’s rays with their products.

We also sell Native sunglasses, for a similar reason. Most customers recognize the term “Polarized” when buying sunglasses. What most don’t realize is that to be “polarized” a sunglass only has to stop 20% of the harmful glare, that your eyes encounter. In essence, they are being sunburned without proper polarization. Native sunglasses provide the most protection, laminating the polarizing fabric in between the inside and outside of the lens itself, helping to control the harmful rays coming through the front of the glasses as well as the reflective rays coming towards your eyes from the ground and behind you. Tests have shown that this approach reduces the harmful glare by significant amounts over other techniques of polarizing. With sun glasses, you definitely get what you pay for, and if you are serious about protecting your eyes, a $20 pair of sunglasses off the rack at the drug store just doesn’t cut it.

Come in and see our selection, we will make sure that you are protected.
